11 foodie delights to tickle your taste buds in Kolkata

1. 6 Ballygunge Place :

What better way to welcome our visiting players than to treat them to some authentic Bengali fare? We suggest Nathan Coulter-Nile, Quinton de Kock and others head to 6 Ballygunge Place for some traditional spicy mutton curry and rice. There's also a wide variety of fish to try out.

2. Bohemian :

When you're done with the authentic fare, move on to some Bengali fusion food. This popular restaurant mixes local flavours and international dishes to come up with something extremely unique – definitely something our international guests could try. How about spicy seafood chowder with coconut milk, or pan-grilled ribs with a Bengali spice mix?

3. Arsalan :

If Sri Lankan Angelo Mathews would like to sample some Indian biryani, Arsalan is where they should head. Scrumptious, aromatic biryani awaits – mutton, chicken, Hyderabadi, what have you.

4. Hot Kati Rolls :

Street food time. Kolkata loves its kati rolls and there are plenty of little roadside stalls. But Hot Kati Rolls on Park Street is perhaps the best known of the lot, often seeing long queues. If Zaheer Khan is missing Mumbai’s street food, he should give this a try!

5. Kewpie's Kitchen :

It’s as real as home food can get – this family-run restaurant was started out of their home. Considered one of the best in the city for homely meals, it serves up quite a few specialty dishes too. Manoj Tiwary might appreciate the home-style food in his home city.

6. Flurys :

An English high tea anyone? Indulge yourself with rich pastries, puddings, English cream tea, and old world charm at Flurys. Or head there for breakfast, because breakfast at Flurys is quite the thing to do when you're in Kolkata.

7. Ramakrishna Lunch Home :

South Indians in the team, craving a crisp masala dosa? We suggest Bangalorean CM Gautam treat his team mates to the dosa and more southern delights at Ramakrishna Lunch Home. The idli and vada get special mention from regular patrons.

8. Zen :

Sometimes we get that craving for Chinese food and this is perhaps the best you will find in the city. There's also an extensive Japanese menu available, as well as Thai. Try out their sushi and dim sums.

9. Azad Hind Dhaba :

Amidst all the fresh water fish and rosogollas, if the Delhi Daredevils are longing for some North Indian chicken tikka masala and butter naan from back home, they can head straight for the Azad Hind Dhaba. It's one of the oldest dhabas in the city and Chandigarh boy Yuvraj Singh may quite appreciate the ambience. And apart from the food, it boasts of an MF Hussain painting, which the artist gifted to the restaurant.

10. Peter Cat :

If JP Duminy from the Delhi Daredevils is missing his barbecue back home in Cape Town and has a craving for steaks, we know exactly where to direct him. Peter Cat on Park Street, is great for sizzling lamb or chicken steaks. Apart from those, other popular choices are the variety of spiced kebabs. The chelo kebab has long held the roost as the favourite dish in this restaurant.

11. Sweets :

It’s not an easy task to pick one sweet shop in Kolkata and say that’s the best, because every locality has its favourite. Though, Girish Chandra Dey and Nakur Chandra Nandy comes very close to being the ultimate one. Also try out Balaram Mullick Sweet Shop, Gokul Sweets and KC Das. Feast on sweets like rosogolla, sandesh, mishit doi, cham-cham and several more.
